This past weekend my sister and I went grocery shopping for a few things, when we went to checkout I stood in a lane that was a little longer than the others because I wasn’t in a hurry. However, my sister didn’t like the line I picked so she went looking for a shorter one and I followed. She found one and we started unloading our items onto the conveyor belt, that is when I noticed the person’s items in front of me.
The lady in front of us had about a week’s worth of groceries and I could tell she was really trying to pinch her pennies, it hit me right away that I should do something for this lady. So, when it came time for the lady to pay for her groceries, I leaned up to her and said “I would like to pay for your groceries today”. She said, “why would you do that?” then I told her about my Random Acts of Kindness that I’m doing in the month of November for my birthday. She told me I didn’t have to do that and I told her I know. She started tearing up and turned away, then told me Happy Birthday as the tears were rolling down her face.
We talked a little bit more after that and then my sister started snapping pictures of us. So, now all the people in HEB were staring at us because we made a little scene, but I’m thankful to be able to have photos of us together. I don’t even know her name and she doesn’t know mine, but we connected. After taking this photo, we hugged and both went separate ways. I will probably never see her again, but I will always remember her.
